Richer limestone forests (all logged in past) occur on slopes below this ridge crest. Old growth Quercus prinus extends down rock slope to the west.;Gentle ridge shoulder with beautiful old stand of Quercus prinus with scattered Pinus rigida and Pinus pungens. Multi-sized stand with lots of down wood. There is a thick duff layer on shallow, rocky, acidic soil. The shrub and herb layers appear to be browsed out by deer, site possibly heavily used due to gentle topography. Fire scars on large old snags.
Representativeness
Small patch of old growth forest on flat ridgetop. Old growth stand also occurs on rocky slopes below ridge where there is much more shrub cover. Plot spans the width of the ridgetop.
